Rockbank Football Club recruit Adam Forth is looking forward to the challenges of playing football in a new location and new state.

Forth, who used to play rugby union, has played all his football in Yass in the AFL Canberra League.

In that time he was a premiership player with the club and was awarded life membership.

Forth said he made the decision to move to Melbourne because he thought it was the best place to take the next step with his football.

“I want to try make something with my footy and there’s not many opportunities up here,” he said.

“I think if I’m going to go and play football elsewhere, Melbourne is the best place for that.”

Forth said he knew little about his new club, but was excited by what he had been told by coach Lachie Waterman.

Waterman is in his first season as the club’s coach and has generated much excitement.

“I know that the footy club is celebrating their 100 years,” Forth said.

“I spoke to a few other clubs and they were slack getting back to me.

“Lachie was really good about it and helped sort it out. He’s more than happy to help.”

Forth will be one of the more experienced players for the Rams.

He said he was more than happy to help pass on his knowledge to younger teammates.

Forth can play defence and in the middle, but said his best position was full-back.

“I like to play full-back, so I can help control the game a bit,” he said.

“I’m hoping it’s a bit tougher.”

Forth said he was hoping to make the move to the area in the coming weeks.

Waterman said Forth was a great addition to the Rams’ list.

“We targeted a key defender and, at 28 years old, Adam has a lot to offer,” Waterman said.

“He’s keen and hungry.”

The Rams will resume pre-season training this week.
